I’ve been trained as an astronomer, a math teacher, and a poet, though I do little of any of those things these days. Instead I work for a community-based organization and strive to make science attractive and accessible to high school students. I’m hoping my extreme nerd enthusiasm helps.
When I’m not seeking out mollusks and other wildlife, you can probably find me reading, knitting, or eating Ethiopian food.

I love your header – Chihuly rocks!
Thanks! It’s a photo I took of a pedestrian bridge in Tacoma, WA. I love how his work is so clearly inspired by invertebrates.
Hello, I was wondering if you were interested in joining the The International Teuthological Society. It is a free organisation dedicated to awareness, conservation, research and appreciation of cephalopods. I love your blog, and though you and any other fellow cephalpodophiles you know that might be interested. We have an official facebook group that we ask you to join, and our name is legally protected by copyright. Membership is free, but we encourage members to donate to museums, conservation organisations, research and labs, and even to the society it’s slef. The eventual goal of the society is to open a museum of teuthology, wherin will be contained at least one representative from each cephalopod genus. We promote the ethical treatment of the cephalopod, and ask members to abstain from consuming calamari and other cephalopod based foods, in light of the animal’s extreme intelligence. I hope you are interested.
